Overview
How many people on your team have typed one line into Copilot, got back something generic, and closed the tab instead of asking why? The fix is not more typing. Two techniques, Reverse Prompting and RCR (Role, Context, Request), change what goes in before Copilot ever answers.
This half day is built around practising them, with the 5W1H checklist and the Meta Prompting method folded in. Each participant brings a real task, works it on their own laptop, and leaves with prompts saved and ready to reuse.
Who should attend
- Staff from any department who use Microsoft Copilot Chat in the browser
- Daily users, and people who have barely opened it since the licence was switched on
- No coding knowledge is needed
What you will be able to do
- Brief Copilot with the RCR Framework and the 5W1H checklist so a real task comes back usable first time.
- Use Reverse Prompting on tasks too vague to prompt, and Meta Prompting on prompts that stopped working.
- Carry one real task from rough idea to a tested, saved prompt ready to reuse.
Course content
Part 1: Briefing Copilot with RCR and 5W1H on a real task
- Map your weekly tasks on an Effort and Frequency grid, and pick one to work on through the session.
- Build a proper brief for that task with the RCR Framework, live in Copilot Chat.
- Add the detail Copilot was missing with 5W1H, and watch the answer change.
Part 2: Turning the tables with Reverse Prompting and Meta Prompting
- Turn to Reverse Prompting when you know what you need but cannot put it into words.
- Use Meta Prompting to repair a prompt that no longer gives good results.
- Practise both methods on your own task, and learn which one to reach for when.
Part 3: Capstone - one real task, from rough idea to saved prompt
- Return to the task you chose at the start and work it through on your own.
- Apply Reverse Prompting and the RCR Framework, then run the prompt on a real file you brought.
- Save the finished prompt where you will find it next time the task comes round.
How it runs
- Hands-on practice with live demonstrations, group discussion and peer review. The session is about four hours.
- You work in Copilot Chat throughout, on your own tasks.
- Bring your own laptop signed in to your work account, and one repeated task in mind.
- Delivered in person.
